Assumptions of Bottom Up Approaches

There are basic assumptions of any bottom-up approaches including collaborative action research.

  1. There should be sufficient knowledge and skills within the groups locally, to stimulate and guide the development of new innovative practices (Pillay, 2002: 12).
  2. A number of competency teachers who have sufficient knowledge and skills should be enough to make critical mass to act as mentors (over 10%) (Pillay, 2002: 27, 32).
