Teacher Training And Development Institutions

There are many institutions having responsive to teacher training and development in Thailand.

Ministry of Education (MOE)

Rajabhats (Teacher Training Colleges)

There are 36 Rajabhats (Pillay, 2002: 30) providing credit courses range from Certificate in Education programs to Doctoral programs. Moreover, they also have special programs offered during the weekends for teachers to upgrade their skills (Pillay, 2002: 32). It is commented that the curriculum is out-of-date.

Universities

There are 229 Faculties of Education in university (Pillay, 2002: 30) providing credit courses range from Certificate in Education programs to Doctoral programs.It is commented that the curriculum is out-of-date.

Distance Learning

The Education Television and Radio and the open universities such as …. provide distance learning through print-based learning, audio- and visual- learning, on-line and television-based learning (Pillay, 2002: 30). They are provided to teachers in rural schools (Pillay, 2002: 30).

Although technical equipments is available, there is a need to be upgraded (Pillay, 2002: 30).

Moreover, the current television cameras on wheels with boom microphones will not be useful to capture real classroom situations easily (Pillay, 2002: 30). Quality of the images may also need improving (Pillay, 2002: 30). The new interactive real-time, rapid feedback design is needed (Pillay, 2002: 30).

Moreover, the traditional computer lab model may not be appropriate for Thailand because it restricts the natural use of the ICT facilities and consequently does not foster a close relationship between the community and its school, which is highly valued in Thai culture (Pillay, 2002: 31).

Some materials is basically old content in a new format with little interactive process (Pillay, 2002: 31).

Mentoring of National and Master Teachers

There is a shortage of national and master teachers, Moreover, the national and master teachers can only discuss and mentor one method that they are given the award for (Pillay, 2002: 34).
